I awoke when it sat down on the corner of my bed. I stayed very still, but I did open my eyes, because I knew it couldn’t see them from its angle of view. The light from my computer monitor cast its shadow on the wall where my eyes were focused.
I closed them quickly when it moved, before it could see them open. Its face close to mine I could feel its breath on my lips, rancid as vomit, it filled my nostrils, making my stomach roll, and goose bumps rise on my arm.
Laying its hand on my shoulder it slowly slid it down to my wrist drumming its fingers on the back of my hand.
A bump, like drop of a boot from the next room made it jump, but not me. I was too frozen with terror to move, but my thumb did give a twitch. It knew then I was awake.
“Mama, can I sleep with you?”
