Happy New Year from Androids and Dragons and welcome to the first issue of 2025! The theme for this issue is robots, androids, automatons, and artificial intelligence. Science fiction at its best explores themes around the human condition, and what better way to do that than through characters who are almost, but not quite, human?
Most of the characters you will meet in this issue may be “artificial” on one level, but their humanity is very real. What does that mean for them? What does it mean for the people who interact with them? What does it even mean to have humanity? A sense of connection to other beings? A moral compass? The ability to create? These stories explore those themes and delve into the relationships technological sentient beings have with each other and with humans. They are also beautifully written and entertaining. Above all, you will find yourself cheering for the protagonists, human and otherwise.
We hope you will enjoy the following stories, which will be presented on the dates listed:
“Claridge of the Klondike” by Judith Field (January 13)
“The Laws” by Michael J. Ciaraldi (January 20)
